T-tops. They aren’t dead. Hummer’s got all the hyper-modern 2030 tech features: endless cameras, big dog batteries, inexplicable crab-mode, over-confident cruise control, and t-tops. Rear t-tops at that and a front targa, making this several roof-based world firsts and also the targa-est car ever built. This is the innovation we need in 2020, this is what will truly stop global warming. If we all focus on the unusual and impractical roofs, maybe the swap to electric propulsion can happen without us noticing.
I might make a post about this, maybe not. I feel 2020 has been a good year for the car. I can’t buy a Bronco or a Hummer EV in my market and I wouldn’t if I could and they’re not available yet, and ditto for the T.50 and the Tuatara. But they’re heaps cooler than the endless slog of SUVs we’ve seen the last few years

I read this as Hummer ETOPS and got excited

That’s a bit pessimistic isn’t it? Where’s your sense of adventure?

I just bash GM, its my thing.

J ust always park it inside and never drive in the rain and you’ll be perfectly fine.
I do like t-tops, but you are absolutely right, you have to religiously maintain the seals and even then they will eventually break down over time...

T tops are dumb

Now if only they’d put T-tops on the Camaro again

I’m all for t- tops and sunrooves and Targa tops and convertibles and removable doors and fold down windscreens and all that malarkey but not on a vehicle intended for use off sealed roads. Mainly because every time I’ve tried it in an old Land Rover or Land Cruiser, I’ve ended up with bugs in my teeth, dust in my hair, stones in my lap, mud in my boots and a permanent case of tinnitus. If I wanted that sort of experience in my life then I wouldn’t do it in an expensive SUV ... I’d get a motorcycle.

These are good points. I’ve not tried it. But I like the idea of it.

I support this

I could go on and on about how they’re the superior way to make a convertible. But they also are pretty dumb ;)

Me too! GM are bad at everything they really are. I hold them responsible for taking our beloved Holden, driving them into the ground and bailing. They’d be assholes if they weren’t so incompetent.

Dumb and bad aren’t the same thing

They quit trying around 1970, and now everything they touch turns to shit (I own 3)

ELECTRIC TOPS

You are in the right place to demonstrate why a likeable idea is insufferable in reality...

I like when people talk about like “90s GM paint quality”. Because you can sub in whatever you want
80s GM paint quality
00s GM paint quality
90s GM interior quality
80s GM build quality
It’s all shit. Every era for 50 years, every aspect of every car.

You think I should get a Jeep or something, live with it for 6 months with doors and roof off? Prove to all that it’s not a good idea and my optimism is misplaced?

Why not? Though you'd only prove it to yourself because humans are the Kings and Queens of Wishful Thinking.

Why not? Because I’m into sports cars not SUVs. I’ve got t-tops and I have them off as often as I can. It’ll have to do until sports cars resurge in the 2040s and we end up with something that has removable doors.
Not sure how likely that is, but you know how these trends come and go.
